Posts: 1 (October 3, 2009 8:00 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None I have recently bought a Samsung 2.5', 160GB HD on EBay as an replacement for the original mini Hard Drive of 12GB (or13GB, I don't remember) for my ten year old Sony Vaio PCG-F650. But, I can't get it to work. I have downloaded firmware from Samsung, burned the CD, Diskette etc. my BIOS does not seem to recognize it. After the boot I get always the same message: Operating System not found. However, just after pressing F2 to enter BIOS the model no. of the new hard drive appears for a split second. But, except for that nothing worked so far. Oh, and, with 'Partition Magic' running off of my A: Drive as a recovery dikette, I see some drive, but it is only 130GB...hm, where, did the other 30GB go? Back and forth...I am not able to boot from a Win2000 Professional Installation CD. Always the same message...'operating system not found'. Any input is much appreciated. Thank you.

There is some hardware and software that will never see more then 130GB because of this. http://forum.egypt.com/enforum/articles-f136/lba-48-bit-warning-win2000-19326.html A BIOS upgrade might help if it's hardware causing the issue. Your "Operating system not found" is because you're booting from the new blank hard drive, not the installation CD. You may or may not be able to use all 160GB, but you would be able to get to 130GB without issue. Diane

I have downloaded from Samsung's website the 'Estool' for the HD, which is a diagnostic tool for that model. It sees the drive with its full 160GB. So does Partition Magic, only smaller 130GB. Bios sees 65GB! The detection of the HD is set to 'auto' in BIOS. I haven't messed with all of the parameters like cylinders, heads, sectors etc., yet. My BIOS is up to date for whatever sony has available on their website as the most recent version Apart from this I am not able to put any operating system on it. I've tried XP set up running from diskettes, CD-ROM etc., the drive refuses to show up. I even ran DOS from diskettes and tried to format through there, but C: primary does not show up. So far formatting and partitioning seemed to work only under Partition Magic running off of 2 recovery diskettes. I formatted the disc for NTFS as a primary C: drive and it is active with its 130GB (30GB missing). THe other problem was that, when I tried to run XP installation from diskettes the Setup asks you for the XP installation disc in your CD-Drive; I get an error message saying that the CD-ROM Drive is not present and therefore the installation will be aborted. THis is how far I got...so far. Any advise. THanks.
