Problem with internet crashing my vaio

My Vaio has been crashing when I browse the internet or connect to games that use internet. If I work offline everything seems to run normal. Every time it freezes up I have to force restart my laptop. I have checked for all updates. I have ran several scans with Malware bytes and gotten no where. Can only be on the internet for about 1-30 minutes before it crashes. Any suggestions?

If you're connected directly, you could be the victim of other machines going after yours. You haven't mentioned which OS, or which browser you're using, or if your machine is fully patched to current levels. You say you're scanning with malware bytes, but what AV are you using? and are you sure it's definitions are up to date? I would also help a lot if you could describe what you mean by "before it crashes" All of those items would help us help you figure it out. Diane

I'm using windows XP home edition. Just updated to service pack 3 but the problem still persists. The machine crashes while using mozilla and explorer or any other program that uses the internet to connect.. I was using Norton for all my virus protection but now I'm open for suggestions because I don't like Norton. No fire wall that I'm aware of. As for the before it crashes I don't know how to explain it much more then that. I can connect to the internet for about 15 minutes before the entire computer freezes. Task manager won't even work once it locks up. Having to do a hard restart once I get to that point.

How are you connecting to the internet? A bad answer would be "I plug my PC directly into the cable/DSL modem" A good answer would be "I plug my computer into the (insert model of router here) which then connects to the Cable/DSL modem. No firewall = bad, check in the Windows Security Center in the control panel to see if you have the default XP firewall enabled. You said you had Norton.. but did you check to be sure it's definitions are current? what are they? Norton AV by itself is not a horrible product, and it will protect you, but if the definitions are out of date you might as well be running with no AV.

Have checked all updates again and all I can find are up to date. Using Windows Security fire wall and Avira Antivir Personal for AV. Finally got time to work on that. Deleted some infections and it looks like it has solved the crashing problem. However, the internet seems to be running very slow. Experiencing very bad lag when changing pages.

Posts: 2191 (May 29, 2009 3:17 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	You're most likely at risk of infection by connecting directly to the cable modem, it leaves you wide open should your software firewall every hiccup, I strongly recommend a router/wireless bridge from a name brand vendor, you're playing a dangerous game by connecting directly.
