With the Vista Upgrade Companion DVD from Sony, I was able to install most of the original content of the computer. However, my volume buttons on the keyboard doesn't work properly, VAIO Event service, despite I installed in Vista compatibility mode, doesn't respond. If you guys out there have given Win7 a try and got this working, let me know.

I suspect that you did a "clean" install that formated your hard drive rather than an upgrade from within Vista, otherwise you won't have had to install all you old drivers. Problem is that when you did clean install of Win 7, you need to install the Sony Libraries and other proprietary Sony software and when you try and do this the changes you made in the system bias mean your computer is not longer recognized as a "Sony" computer and this is why those buttons do not work. You can go back and use the recovery disks that came with your computer to reinstall Vista and everything else to the way it was when it was new and then do a "upgrade" installation of Win 7. This should make everything work. The problem that you will still have is that there is no upgrade path from the Win 7 beta (ie you can't use the beta to upgrade to the final retail copy of Win 7) you'll have to do either a clean install or use the recovery disks all over again before you do the upgrade. Like many others I have been beta testing Windows 7 for a few months.I hear now the Retail Candidate will be available May 5. I originally had Windows XP SP3 on my four year old.VGN-S5M and so had to wipe my hard disk. I took the chance to remove the partition too. I'm not sure what happens to the Recovery partition. The installation was not too bad as most of the drivers and utilities worked after a fashion. I downloaded as many Vista updates as I could. I also had to get a wifi driver from Intel. Note that "Original not Installed" means that Windows 7 did not recognize the version I tried to instal)) My point in posting this is to ask if Sony will be making an easy to use utilities update package available for the soon-to-be-released operating system, or are people expected to fight their way through the installation like I did?
