Brand new to the forum and a bit stressed. I hope you folks here can help me!
I use Vista on a VAIO VGN-NR160E. I had all my mp3 collection (194 gigs) loaded on an external HD and used MP3Gain a number of times and basically destroyed the files. I decided to start from scratch, deleted all of the files and began to rip CDs a new. After getting back up to about 40 gigs I realized the files didn't sound very good.
Here's what I did: I ripped using iTunes at 192k, then at 320k, and then VBR. Each sounded the same. Then I listened to files in WinAmp and they sounded the same. I listened on the onboard speakers, headphones, an ipod and speakers with a sub. It was all the same. The files sound somewhat distorted and even empty. Though I'm certain the average listener would think they're fine. (I'm not saying I'm better than anyone, just that the distortion is so slight it would probably go mostly un-noticed.)
I'm at a loss and don't know what to do. I've already uninstalled and reinstalled the Realtek driver. But in the meantime, I can't listen to my music, it just sounds that bad. What can I do??!
