GigaPocket/Picoplayer |

I have a VAIO RX770 running Windows XP Home and I have been trying for 4 months to watch TV via PicoPlayer. I have read every post on this subject including FAQ & Think Tank. I'm not as bright as I once was but I am missing something! Whenever I access it, it asks for a gigapocket server and password. I really don't have any idea what to put there. The gigapocket and picoplayer came pre-installed on the system with what I consider to be very poor docs. It seems like there are many others having the same kind of problems. Please help if you can. Thanks - Jeff angiesdad@tri-lakes.net

Which part of the Think Tank didn't help?
The part that talks about the detailed instruction booklet that came with your VAIO? ...or the part that gives you a link to an online copy in case you managed to lose your booklet? ...or the resource links? Clearly you are the only person that finds these items of no help. Cheers Eddie Please review the FAQ and Think Tank (all pages) before posting. EZ, through your instructions I did find the instruction booklet and sure appricate it. The booklet at that web site is the first time I had ever seen it, so it is now bookmarked. I don't know which series of VAIO's came with Giga Pocket instructions, but mine didn't (RZ16G). I have had to "fish" around to get things working. I now can watch TV on it. But, as far as all the other info. I didn't have, none came with the computer. I think Sony was lax on not including a instruction booklet with the computer. I suppose I was looking too hard is the reason I didn't find the Acrobat copy. Thanks for the link.

I have two questions for you:
Did you start the GigaPocket server? Why do you even want to use PicoPlayer? Cheers Eddie Please review the FAQ and Think Tank (all pages) before posting. New users, please read this thread. |

re: GigaPocket/Picoplayer | ||
I read think tank and the faq's & pros. but I do not know how to use the Giga Pocket server as I do not know my password. Every time I try to log on it asks for my pc name (which I give) and a password. Then it states comp pp1100 cannot connect to computer (my pc name).Then nothing happens.

I am as dumb as a box of rocks when it comes to this GigaPocket server thing so let me play devils advocate here Eddie? How do you start the GigaPocket server? Is there an icon to click on or is there something else that needs to be done?
Dave

Yes sir, Dave. There is a shortcut on the GigaPocket menu for the GigaPocket server, right there with all the other GigaPocket menu items!
See, you're not as dumb as a box of rocks. Cheers Eddie Please review the FAQ and Think Tank (all pages) before posting. New users, please read this topic. |

Sorry, eddie. I am a bit frustrated. I keep trying to launch Giga Pocket server and cannot. I select launch giga pocket server and it asks for my comp name and password. I looked for my comp name and found it (I am still not sure if it's my model # pcv-rx670 or the name in properties) but the only message I receive is :
(pp1100) is unable to connect to comp(then my pc name). I am unable to launch giga pocket server. I found Sony's iEPG and tried to record a program from the tv listings. It indicated that it was saved to my computer and to forward to Giga pocket server which I cannot log into. I was trying to use pico player as it indicated it was able to open the recording as a video capsule but it would not let me. I would like to know where I can obtain the proper pc name and my password. If you could help I will be eternally grateful. |

No problem, we're here to help.
What happens when you click on "Giga Video Recorder" on the GigaPocket menu? Cheers Eddie Please review the FAQ and Think Tank (all pages) before posting. New users, please read this topic. |

Re: giga pocket | ||

Giga Video Recorder is what plays the TV, if you have hooked the computer up to cable.
Pico Player is software that will allow another computer in the house watch the tv on their monitor without hooking up to cable, but only if Giga Pocket Server is running on the host computer. Pico Player must be installed on the other computers in order to do this. It asks for the name of the host computer, chosen when setting up a home network, and a password if it has been set in Giga Pocket Server Options Settings menu - you can hit cancel to go without a password. Yet another program called Video Explorer will play back the capsules recorded from tv. Anyway, my Giga Pocket is broken, so don't feel bad - at least yours never worked in the first place! |

duplicate, did you per chance install or update the Real player before your hardware overlay issue started? This player is the known cause of a lot of problems.
What model VAIO / OS / graphics card do you have? We really need these kinds of details to be able to help you! Cheers Eddie Please review the FAQ and Think Tank (all pages) before posting. New users, please read this topic. |

I'm running the MXS20 as shipped with WinXP Home and NIVIDIA GeForce 2 MX/MX 440.
I installed the Sony updates, and XP SP1, and all was well. I did not keep enough track of the order or file/registry alterations of my third party installations and uninstallations, nor did I notice Giga Pocket was broken until too late. I have performed every trouble-shooting possibility found on the web and advised by Sony including removing and reseating the tuner card to no avail. My system restore had insufficient records to take me back to before the trouble occurred, so that was out. PicoPlayer set up on another PC reports the error that Giga Pocket is busy recording. Anyway, I intend to be extremely meticulous about the System Recovery I am obviously going to have to perform, and install one-by-one, and keep checking back with Giga Pocket and the overlay mystery. I will be sure and post to this group any findings, but it could be awhile... |

Vaio Manual | ||
|
EZ, could you please tell me where, within the Think Tank it refers to the VAIO manuals and how to get one. I just bought a VAIO RZ22G and no manuals ( other than the quick start booklet ) came with it. I've looked at the Think Tank but don't seem to be looking in the right place. Thanks !!!

Re: Vaio Manual | ||
|
Hey Chuck, welcome to VAIO Village.
Most topics (threads) in the Think Tank forum are for specific pieces of software or hardware. Most threads have an "Information and Resource" post which has links to helpful places. VAIOs are being shipped with less and less hard copy manuals. To find the manuals on your hard drive press the Windows Key and F at the same time. In the "All or part of the filename" box type: .hlp;.chm;.pdf In the "Look in:" box, select "Local Hard Drives" Click on the "Find" button. This will list all the manuals on your computer. You will be able to tell what the manual is for by the folder it is located in. Cheers Eddie Please review the FAQ and Think Tank (all pages) before posting. New users, please read this topic. |
