My problem:
A few months ago my laptop suddenly stopped acknowledging that the battery was in. Neither battery light would come up (with the battery in either bay). Also, if the power gets unplugged the laptop shuts right off as if there is no battery.
I have disassembled the laptop myself for various reasons and put it back together. I wasn't sure if maybe something could be lose that might cause the problem.
About a month before the problem started, I had taken the laptop on a trip and powered it via the cigarette lighter in the car on the way. At first, I used this awful Targus Charge Source for power. While running, the laptop kept switching into battery mode because the Targus Charge Source would overheat and shut off. I wonder if maybe this weekend the portion of the laptop that controlls (charges, etc..) the battery.
Is there something inside the laptop I can replace that will allow me to use batteries again? I saw several parts online that sounded like they could be the key to restoration. I would hate to take my laptop completely apart only to find I have to replace the whole motherboard. By opening the laptop again, I risk completely destroying my already too short ribbon cable (which connects to the power button). I suppose I would order a new one of those if there was some kind of battery module I could find for this thing.
Thank you so much for you help (in advance)!
Sincerely,
Greg N
