Trouble reinstallin VAIO pcv-120 |

I decided to reinstall my vaio 120 a few days ago because i was missin shell32.dll, so i ran fdisk and deleted the primary partition and then created a new primary partition. Then i put the Vaio recovery disc in and ran that. it asked me if i wanted to run complete recovery or selection recovery i chose complete recovery, then it asked me if i wanted to just recover or format and recover. since i didnt format the C: drive yet i ran format and recover. everything was going fine then when it hit around 56% it said the hard drive was full and the operation would be aborted. So i took out the cd and i restarted windows to see if atleast i would be allowed to access some windows files.. i was right windows loaded then a black screen came up with all these files that were corrupted or werent in windows. obviously they werent in windows and it said to press any key to continue so i did. Now this computer comes with a 3.8 gig hard drive. so once i got into windows i went and checked to see how many gigs the computer did have even though i knew we had 3.8, it said we only had 504 mega bytes.. this is our problem and i cant reinstall the pc till i find out why and what solutions i have before i do this.. do any of you guys have any suggestions?

Sounds suspiciously like a partitioning problem. I'd drop back and run fdisk once again
, making sure that the resulting partition size(s) make sense.

Hi,
In my opinion, the type of predicament you are in would warrant a truly meticulous recovery effort, starting with a clearing of the CMOS and then reinstituting the default configuration even before a low-level format of HD. At this stage, this should not add excessive amount of time to your endeavor. And, it would give you a high-confidence-level baseline to start from. Obviously, if you had implemented any non-factory peripherals, you would need to configure these after default configuration recovery is saved and re-booted. Good luck. |

What partition structure does fdisk report for the drive? [run fdisk /status] Unfortunately, fdisk is not the easiest utility to work with. I usually don't even bother with it, but run Partition Magic instead.
