A Members Guide to Vaio Village
The following tools and suggestions will help you help us give you the best experience when visiting Vaio Village:
The ABC's
A. Please READ the Members Agreement
By posting in the Vaio Village Forums you agree to adhere to these policies.
Posting requests for Recovery Discs and BIOS Password Information is NOT Allowed under any circumstances and any such posts will be deleted.
B. Please READ the "Guidelines for Posting in this Forum" at the top of each Forum.
Take a few moments to add the information about your System (including model/series.. Operating System, Memory...and any other pertinent information like peripherals etc. to your profile)
Just Go to:
My Control Panel/ My Home and check under both Edit Profile and add this information to the BIO section
This makes for any easy reference when helping you troubleshoot.
C. Please post only once per topic.
If necessary Vaio Village Staff may move your post to the most appropriate Forum.
Duplicate posts in multiple Forums may be deleted.
This will make it easier to keep track of responses to your post.
D. Get into a habit of clicking on the "mark all forums read" at the top of the page
...as you leave.. "the Village"...
This will reset the vaio tower icons to let you know where the new posts are since your last visit...when you return to Vaio Village.
E. Turn on "accept private messages":
This helps others to communicate with you.
Each account user has to go into their control center and click the 'edit preferences' button, you then scroll down and checkmark the option to "accept private messages" and then click "save changes"
This does NOT give out any private information or email..
But is simply a way for other members to be able to contact and interact with you directly to help in your problem solving..
F. For your Privacy and Security:
Please Do NOT post Email Addresses on the Main Board
Please refrain from any type of spamming, flaming or questionable attachments...as these may cause your membership at the Vaio Village Forums to be revoked.
We are far from techno gurus and have absolutely no affiliation with Sony so it is highly suggested:
With specific questions try initially posting in a forum that fits your basic problem or situation first ! ! !
With our growth in membership you are much more likely to get a quicker series of responses since several sets of eyeballs will view your situation or question(s) and be able to help troubleshoot a solution with you much more quickly... than we can respond.
G. Adjust your Page Views:
Since the new structure of EZboard has come out the way the visits/hits has changed dramatically and will likely double the cost of keeping Vaio Village under the ad free CSC Gold status...
One thing that maybe very helpful is to have all members adjust the Max Number Of Replies Per Page... so that when you open a forum you actually view more Replies (topics) on a single page instead of having to go to a second or third page that counts as a hit or visit against us.
To adjust this setting please:
Go to:
My Control Center at the top of the main page
And then Choose: Edit Preferences
Under Max Number of Replies Per Page:
Change this number to at least 20-30....
And "save changes" at the bottom
This will mean that when you click on a forum that number of Topics you set will show on each page of the forum you are in...
And will hopefully reduce having to go to a second, third etc. page..
To view more Topics...
And this will hopefully save some of or visits/hits bandwidth costs....
This sounds like a small deal but if we can get EVERY member to increase this setting it will really help cut down some of the costs we are incurring to bring you Vaio Village.
H. Tips for Searching for Topics:
Check to see if your Question might have been covered before.
This helps at least narrow down finding some specific information especially in the forums that now have more than 2,000 posts.
Here are a few suggestions:
1. The search only works for the forum you are in.
So initially go into a Forum that is most likely to cover your specific question..
ie. Vaio Hardware.
2. Once there click on the "Search" button next to the Mark forum Read button at the top of the page.
3. It is best to uncheck the "case sensitive" box to increase your chance for more hits on your search.
4. It is also better to change the Search in: at the bottom to "Entire Message" in the dropdown for the same reason.
5. Then just type in something as specific as possible in the Search Words..
ie: iLink and hit enter.
6. You can also choose to search for a subject by a member if you remember seeing a post from them and are having trouble finding it again.
In this case it is probably better Not to enter anything in the Search Words so you get all the posts by that member in the Forum.
7. Then finally you might try all of the above again in another Forum.. some topics do get covered in more than one Forum...
