1. If you can get at the hidden partiton that comes standard on all sony's from the factory copy all files ending .pac their should be two files something like sony1.pac and sony2.pac the files have longer names but rename them to the previous after you copy them.

I do not have the recovery cds and when i email sony abou it they told that they do not support operating system change (from Home to pro) and they told me the only solution is of course to buy a recovery kit from them that they sell for 20 dollars !

I've had some experience w/ older versions of this...never had a problem installing it and getting it to work...never had a memory leak issue...

I have a couple of questions...

I would rate their support as a 5 out of 10. I have also had experience with HP and Compaq support and I would rate their support as 3 or 4. Their website has better updates but its almost impossible to get help from a support person.

So are you saying that Sony VAIO PCs and Notebooks are not a good choice because of this? I am sincerely curious as I still have 7 days left on my 15 day money back guarantee and I do not wish to be stuck with a computer that will never see one patch, driver update or have other problems that Sony will not fix because as you say... it is considered another appliance and there-fore I should be prepared to buy a new one with newer software and less bugs.

As a long-time VAIO owner, I've seen them only marginally improve their tech support and I will say they've improved their driver support over the years...but anything like complaints, petitions, law suits, I'm afraid fall on deaf ears w/ a company the size of Sony.

I agree that a petition would be a good move, but it will take atleast ten to pone hundred times as many signatures as that for Sony to even consider doing what we are requesting.

I have purchased a Sony product and therefore I have agreed to their license and etc... .

Perhaps you should write Sony a letter. They should most definately make their drivers available to those who wish to access them. There is no truely legitemate reason for them not to. Obviously all of the hardware drivers are either strictly reference redistributions or custom software designed to work only with the Sony VAIO line of notebooks. I do not see how offering the drivers for individual download would be a threat to their intellectual property rights.
