How to recover Sony Vaio Notebook

Hi I am looking for any help for recovering my sony vaio notebook pc. I had a nasty virus and had to format my hard drive. Now when i restart the PC it says operating system not found. I tried to boot from the optical drive that contains a windows XP bootable cd in order to reinstall. The PC does not find the cd though no matter what i try. I understand there is a way to boot from a hidden partition to recover the system but i have no idea what keys need to be pressed at boot to do...

I bought a sony vaio FZ31Z about a year ago, and now I'm having some driverproblems after I installed Windows Vista.
I just got my Wireless driver to work again, but I can't change my screens brightness (because of the FN-key, don't have the nvidia control panel anymore, my pc can't find my webcam, etc...

Hi, I'm at the end of my tether, and wondered whether you could help.

Recently restored my Vaio using the recovery wizard and the hidden partition. THEN I got a nasty virus, no XP access, no bootdiscs to fix.

My brother fixed it using his XP boot disc, by taking out my hard drive and slaving it with his desktop (don't go rummaging in Vaio's!)

Hi folks.

I am trying to install WinXP Pro from a burned cd, which I used to install that OS, but in this notebook I keep getting shut down from the notebook and the installation is uncomplete and when I try to continue just does not work, so I have to do all over again and again. =(

I checked, ram memory, cpu heat meter, hd Surface test, fan cpu and chasis, DVD rom lens.. and there are all ok.

Any clue for this issue is welcome.

My hard drive failed so I replaced it with a new one. I also purchased a new version 64bit version of Vista. I installed them both with no problems. The first thing I did was to go to Sony.com and download the utilities that I needed. The only one that is causing me trouble now is the function key. I have an older PCG-TR2AP. Had to replace hard drive and do not have recovery disk..Sony says no longer available. Installed XP. Sony website offers original drivers and updates but not original software. Most things work but not camera. I have Network Smart Capture which show active camera but blank screen.

Can you tell me if other software is necessary and where to get it. Or does anyone have the recovery disks for this unit?

The bundled software is bloated and I have un-installed most of it..
