upgrading HDD in VGN-FZ480E

I'm replacing the hard drive in my Vaio, but was advised by Sony that the reason this model had such a slow spinning drive (4200 rpm) was heat dispersion. My original plan was to drop a 500 gb. 7200 rpm drive in. Has anyone had similar experiences in replacing thier drive only to find it caused heat issues?

Wireless card inop after fresh XP install Vaio PCG-K33

Sony Vaio PCG-K33. I did an XP Home fresh install. Everything works fine except the internal wireless card. It is an Atheros LAN-Express AS IEEE card that shows up in the device manager as an Ethernet Controller with the yellow question mark. It says there is no driver so I have downloaded the driver from the Sony site but still doesn't work. The wireless switch is on. Any help? NO problem with ethernet connection at all. And, yes, I know now I should have made a recovery disc.

T150 Non Removable Memory

VGN-T150 - Does not pass POST or even get to it. I can get it to boot up by removing all power
and holding down the start button for 1 minute. After boot up it will run for up to 5 minutes usually ending with a stop message and shutdown. Stop message along the lines of *** Stop: 0XC0000008E Beginning memory dump. Sometimes with just a blackscreen shutdown.

I removed the keyboard, noted that there is no extra memory installed and that is as far as I got.

So, iv'e had my vgn-fz11s for about 3 years, no problems, but about a month ago when starting the laptop up the screen goes weird colours and has lines of across etc. Anyway it boots to the bios load with the werid screen then blue screen on me. It then restarts and gives me the option of system recovery. If i choose system recovery the windows displays fine, without the weird colours as if normal?!?!
I thought this may be the nvdia card fault with many vaios but when...

Went to replace the HDD in my Vaio, and the little tiny cable that went from the HDD to the Mobo (one side is HDD and one it small and white) broke (the white bit came off.,) I don't even know what it's called to look for it online! Searching for any clue to how to use the "Alt Car" key on my Vaio.
The key is in red and appears to give you access to the other characters in red around the keyboard..
ex. the british pound sign, cents, euro, 1/4 1/2 and 3/4 etc..
I know you can get the £ sign by pressing the num lock key and holding down the alt key and typing 156, but if you could use this key as some sort of
short cut as it seem to be, that would by handy.

I have a VGN-NR38E and I am trying to access a 200gb Maxtor diamondmax hdd via a usb to ide adapter, the drive shows up in my computer but I cant access it.

The drive shows as a 31gb drive in disk management, I have tried maxblast 5 but it doesnt seem to work via usb.

The bios settings are limited on this laptop so i cant access the hdd settings.

I have used bios agent plus but dont want to spen $30 on it....

any ideas... :-)

Here's the issue.
Can't boot to C: drive because it was missing BOOTMGR
tried to use boot from CD that I made.
Cannot boot/recover from Disks, Can't recover from recovery partition ( says cannot obtain drive letter)
Looked in DOS.... the is an X drive, a D drive, a (blank) C drive and it does show my E (recovery) drive.

It looks like someone cleaned out the C drive and now it won't boot from anything but the X drive.
How do I get rid of the X...

Hi all,

I want to replace my miniPCIe 4965AGN Intel wireless card from this laptop. However, when I tried to open the doors on the bottom of my laptop, I noticed that the wireles wasn't exposed. I'm guessing that it is right below however I can't remove the whole thing. I've already unscrewed everything but it won't come off. Anybody knows where I could find a disassemble manual for the CR140e? I can't find it in the Sony website.
